Dehradun. Wildlife Week was concluded by Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (R) at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal and Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi participated in this program organized at Raj Bhavan Auditorium. On this occasion, the Governor honored officers, employees, institutions and individuals who have done commendable work in the field of wildlife conservation. The objective of Wildlife Week is to create awareness among the general public about the conservation of forests and wildlife and to get their participation for their conservation. For this purpose, during this week, various programs were organized in all the divisions and circles of the Forest Department in the entire state of Uttarakhand. In the closing ceremony, the Governor unveiled the film of Corbett Tiger Reserve and the Hindi version of the departmental publications Guidelines issued by the Government of India regarding Human Guldar Conflict Reduction, “A Compendium of Best Practices for Secure Himalaya” under the Secure Himalaya Project. Project” and technical guide for making value added apple products – juice and jam was released. In his address on this occasion, the Governor said that Uttarakhand has more than 70 percent forest area. He said that wildlife and forest resources can completely change our economy, we have to understand their importance. He said that we have immense reserves of forest wealth, which is a priceless gift for us. The Governor said that we need to focus on proper utilization of natural resources.
He said that on the occasion of Wildlife Week, we have to take a pledge that we should understand our responsibility towards the conservation of forests and wildlife. He said that human wildlife conflict is a challenge whose solution we have to find ourselves. The Governor appreciated the work being done by the Forest Department for wildlife conservation and stressed on getting participation of the general public in the conservation of forests and wildlife.
In his address, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal provided information about the work being done by the Forest Department. He also said that without the cooperation of local people and general public, the schemes being run for the conservation of forests and wildlife cannot be fruitful. Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi stressed on public participation in the field of forest conservation as well as making a mutual strategy by the Agriculture and Forest Departments. Chief Conservator of Forests (Half) Anup Malik, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Chief Wildlife Warden Dr. Dhananjay Mohan, Chief Forest Conservator Wildlife Nishant Verma, Director Rajaji Tiger Reserve Dr. Saket Badola and other officers and employees were present in the closing programme.
