State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, in his address as the chief guest on the occasion of the inauguration of Sir George Everest House in Mussoorie after the renovation, said that for the first time the correct height and location of the world’s highest peak ‘Mount Everest’ should be told. He is pleased to inaugurate Sir George Everest’s house in Mussoorie after the renovation.

Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the world’s highest peak was named ‘Mount Everest’ after Sir George Everest, who had spent a long time in Mussoorie, the queen of mountains. This surveyor and geographer from Wales had told the exact height and location of Everest for the first time. Therefore, on the recommendation of British surveyor Andrew Waugh, in the year 1865, this peak was named after him. Earlier this peak was known as ‘Peak-15’.
Shri Maharaj said that the Sir George Everest House (residential complex) situated in the middle of 172 acres near the Queen of hills, Mussoorie, Hathipaon and the laboratory (observatory) situated about 50 meters away from it, which was constructed in 1832. When I came here, seeing its dilapidated condition, I resolved to erect it again in its old form, which has become a reality today. He said that the renovation work of the building was started on January 18, 2019 after unlocking. Was. The restoration work of Sir George Everest (residential complex) including its surrounding area was going on continuously since then at a cost of Rs 23 crore 69 lakh 47 thousand.

Shri Maharaj said that all the works of Sir George Everest Heritage House, done under the scheme funded by Asian Development Bank under Uttarakhand Tourism Infrastructure Development Investment Program, have been almost completed.

Shri Maharaj said that by renovating this historical heritage of Mussoorie, which was in very dilapidated condition in the past, retaining its original form like grinding in a mill instead of cement. Made from a mixture. In its renovation, Lahori bricks have been used in the mill by grinding lime, succulent, fenugreek and urad dal with water and making a cement-like coating.

He said that George Everest House renovation and restoration, observatory renovation and restoration, out house and bachelor room renovation, approach road, track route, open air theatre, construction of demonstration ground and four mobile toilets, five food vans and two tourist buses etc. But till now an amount of Rs 16 crore 41 lakh has been spent while the remaining work will be completed soon.

Apart from flagging off the tourist van on the occasion, Shri Maharaj released the book “The Great Ark” as well as planted a tree in the George Everest House premises.
